At Clenzoil, we constantly receive questions from our World Wide users on how to “best” use our products. Sometimes we receive suggestions or comments from you...the user, on new uses for Clenzoil, or just positive feedback on how great it works! Many times, our Research & Development Staff feels that some of these E-mails (as well as the calls we receive) should be “shared,” with our users....as a lot of good information is exchanged.
Feel free to share any of your questions, comments or ideas with us here at Clenzoil...and we’ll be sure to pass them along to the Clenzoil World Wide Family!
Q: I have a pretty extensive custom (handmade) knife collection that has some very high valued knives in it. Many of these knives have handles made out of some rather exotic natural materials such as different types of animal bone and some very rare woods. I have been searching for years for a product that can protect and nurture both the blades and the handles. A gunsmith told me to try your product Clenzoil. Do I need to worry about using your product on any part of my knives?
Gerry M. King - Portland, Oregon
A: Gerry, let me first tell you that the majority of us at Clenzoil spend a lot of time in the "outdoors," and whether we are hunting, fishing or camping, we all agree that a good knife is an essential piece of equipment to have with you. Whether your knives are collector/ investment works of art or they are hard working "field" blades...a regular coating of Clenzoil is just what the Doctor ordered! In fact, many noted Custom Knife makers like Ken Davis will tell you that all of his handmade knives are treated both during the manufacturing process as well as before they are sent out to the customer with Clenzoil. We like to say..." the proof is in the pudding," or in this case...the Clenzoil bottle!

Q: My son is on his second tour of Iraq for the US Marine Corp. During his first tour, he said that he (and the other Marines in his unit) had trouble keeping their weapons from jamming due to the sand and heat. At one point, most of them were cleaning their weapons with kerosene and then firing them "dry," with no lubrication at all. When he rotated back on his second tour, he decided to take with him some Clenzoil...which we use at home for cleaning guns during hunting season. He said that the product works great in that enviroment! They clean their weapons with the Clenzoil, then "treat," the bolt and trigger mechanism with a very light coating of Clenzoil and it works better than advertised....even in 130F degree heat!
My question is what makes Clenzoil so different than everything else on the market and why doesn't the US military issue it as their standard CLP?
Paul Henderson, Indianapolis Indiana
A: Paul, first let us say, "...Thank You and God Bless You," to your son for his courage and sacrifice that he must exhibit on a daily basis, to ensure our freedom and safety. To answer your question about what makes Clenzoil so different, let's just say that any product that has almost 60 years of ongoing Research & Development behind it has probably been tested against almost every enviromental extreme you can throw at it. Clenzoil is different than everything else on the market and we have thousands and thousands of customers who will attest to that...including many US and foreign military units all over the world.

Q: Will Clenzoil damage my synthetic stock if it is exposed to it accidentally?
Richard Keene, Johnson City Tennessee
A: Richard, Clenzoil will not harm a synthetic stock...whether it be fiberglass, kevlar or carbon fiber. However, we would not recommend you applying it to an enamel painted surface as it may actually "clean," the paint off of the material it is applied to.

Q: Is it alright for me to apply Clenzoil to the outboard motor on my boat? I thought that since it is such an excellent rust preventative that it would work great on an engine used in a saltwater enviroment.
Chris Ochs, Clearwater Florida
A: Chris, Clenzoil works great on virtually any marine application. In fact, many of us here at Clenzoil have used it on our boats for years. What makes it so much better as a engine protectant is that unlike most engine "dressings," it is not sticky...so saltwater nor salt in the air will adhere to it. Also, each time you apply it...the engine surface is "cleaned," of any contaminants that may have worked their way under your engine cowling.

Q: I’ve been using Clenzoil to clean my center fire rifles and handguns for some time now, however, I just got into the black powder hunting scene. Will my Clenzoil work well on cleaning my new muzzleloader?
Jason Beaver - Branson Missouri
A: Jason, more and more hunters are entering the “black powder,” hunting season...and for good reason. It extends your time in the woods and generally gives you a “jump” on game not getting the rifle season “spooks.” However, by using Clenzoil to clean your muzzleloader, you won’t be extending your “smokepole,” cleaning time. Many industry experts consider Clenzoil to be the ultimate cleaning solution for muzzleloaders. We suggest that you work a well saturated patch through the bore of the rifle and then leave the muzzleloader alone for 10-20 minutes. You will find that giving the Clenzoil solution time to do the work for you will make the rest of your cleaning job easier. After the initial treatment period you can then do your normal bronze brush, saturated patch cleaning regimen. What really makes Clenzoil great for muzzleloaders is that it actually helps to condition the bore over time so that it will stay cleaner the more you use it and it helps to keep rust (a major muzzleloader problem) at bay!

Q: I hunt in an extremely cold weather environment. I’ve noticed that my rifle trigger stays “crisp” and the bolt still seems “slick,” even when the temperature dips below 0 degrees. What makes Clenzoil a better lubricant for areas that will regularly get down to such extreme temperatures, as opposed to some of the new so called “high-tech” lubricants?
Kevin Kincaid - Upper Peninsula Michigan
A: Kevin, unlike a lot of products that use silicone or Teflon ingredients, Clenzoil doesn’t use any chemicals that can get “snotty,” or change consistency in temperature extremes. Trust us...you’ll “quit,” the cold weather hunt...long before Clenzoil will quit you!

Q: Can I use Clenzoil on my “high-end,” saltwater reels?
Craig Lariz - Key West Florida
A: Craig, the short answer is...Absolutely! Don’t let the bottle fool you. Just because it has a shotgun on the label doesn’t mean you can’t use it on other outdoor gear. In fact, hundreds of Professional Fishing Guides around the world have been using Clenzoil for decades. We suggest you pull the reel apart and add a few drops of Clenzoil on the gears and spindle for mid season tune ups. However, many Professional Fishing Guides at the end of each season will unspool the reel and then give it a complete soaking in a gallon of Clenzoil for the ultimate saltwater reel protection!

Q: Many times I have accidentally gotten Clenzoil on the wooden stock of my rifle while cleaning it. Do I need to worry about the hand-rubbed finish on my stock being affected by continued exposure to Clenzoil?
Max Williams - Atlanta Georgia
A: Max, believe it or not...your stock will love you for “exposing,” it to Clenzoil. The ingredients that make up Clenzoil are a Trademarked secret. However, we will tell you that some of the components are specifically designed to nurture and replenish the natural oils and minerals that wood and leather require to stay strong and beautiful...for decades and decades. In fact, you’ll find that your wood stocks and leather slings will develop a natural “patina,” that enhances the look of your stock and sling, helps to protect them from the elements and keeps the metal work attached to them from rusting as well.

Q: Hello - My name is Kyle Schawel and I have used a lot of your oil in the past. I talked to you on the phone (the owner) last year about uses for tool and die. My dad has been in the tool and die industry since he was 17 years old. I have turned many friends on to your product and they love it.
I have one favor to ask you. Can you send me any promotional items such as stickers, hats or tee-shirts? I would love a black tee-shirt in XL (or XXL if all cotton). Thanks for your help and good luck and love your product.
Kyle Schawel - Sleepy Hollow, IL
A: Kyle, we are very happy to hear that you and your father are great fans of Clenzoil. You might want to let your Dad know that we have a Division of Clenzoil specifically known as the Clenzoil Machine & Tool Division. We sell a version of Clenzoil that is manufactured for use in the machine, tool and die and industrial sector that can be purchased in 1 gallon, 5 gallon and 55 gallon drums. In fact, we can produce it in almost any amount that you may need it. The Machine & Tool Clenzoil product is made to work in the extreme enviroments often associated with the manufacturing industry. Many of the properties that Clenzoil demonstrates is considered ideal for the tool and die industry. Regarding your question about what promotional items we have for Clenzoil...let me just say that in the next couple of weeks we will be offering some really "cool" hats, visors and shirts for sale in our E-Commerce Store on this web site. However, since you asked so nicely (and just this one time) ....keep and eye out in your mail box and we'll see what we can do! Thanks for your continued support.

Q: With close to 20 years of gunsmithing and gun sales experience....I have to tell you folks at Clenzoil I have never seen a product like this in my entire life. I have literally taken in used rifles on one day, cleaned and treated them with Clenzoil overnight and watch them "walk out the door" in the hands of a new owner the very next day! Your product is phenomenal! Keep us the great work and what else are you guys bringing to market?
Robert C. Ray Salem, New York
A: Mr. Ray, we really appreciate the kind words regarding our product.....especially considering that they are coming from someone so knowledgeable as you. However, I will tell you that we hear similar stories to yours nearly everyday. That doesn't mean that we don't like to hear them though. Clenzoil Worldwide has numerous products in the works. We expect to bring to market before long our Hinge Pin Jelly as well as our Marine & Tackle line and our Cycle & Sprocket line of products. Of course we will always be working to improve our formulations and packaging.....just so we can continue to meet the expectations of our customers.....and yours!

C: Just wanted to let you guys know Clenzoil is a great product. I don't know if anyone has ever told you guys this, but I've noticed it can be used to repair computer power supplies. Sometimes the bearings in the fan on the back will start to go (and make an obnoxious sound), and then eventually the fan will stop as the power supply will then overheat and die. Putting a drop of Clenzoil in the middle has actually brought them back for us....saving money! What a Great Product!
Thanks, Tom Callahan, USA
R: Tom, thanks for suggesting yet another use for Clenzoil that we never thought of before! It seems the more we think we know about how Clenzoil can be used.....the more we find our potential product use list lacking. Thank Goodness for the many fans of Clenzoil keeping us abreast of the many expanding uses for Clenzoil. Keep up the good work Tom!

Q: Does your product have any “scent-effect” on game, or is it scent-free? Your product works great, maybe someday I can help to represent your product in my area!
Robert Seprish, Springbrook Township Pennsylvania
A: Robert, Clenzoil “Field & Range” is specifically blended with the hunter in mind which means that Clenzoil is scent-neutral only minutes after its application. You will notice that when initially applied Clenzoil has an almost “Evergreen or Woodsy” scent. The chemists at Clenzoil specifically sought out blending components that would not stand out or seem out of place in the “field.” Once Clenzoil completes its bonding process to the applied surfaces, it becomes scent-neutral or scent-free. This means that unlike every other product on the market, you can apply Clenzoil to your firearm while actually on your hunt! In fact, many Professional Hunting Guides carry our “One-Step-Solution” presaturated patches with them in the field so their clients can treat their weapons with Clenzoil (to protect them from rust) during the onset of inclement weather……with no fear of an out of place odor spoiling their hunt! Thanks for the great question……and just so you know, we are always looking for new Authorized Dealers of our product line!
Clenzoil Field Staff
Q: Here in Finland, our hunting conditions are extreme and unforgiving. I have used your product now on my Sako rifle, my hunting knives and axes, and all around my hunting cabin (door hinges, pumps, tools, etc.). I am most impressed with how well it works in sub-zero conditions. What other chemical products does Clenzoil offer for use by outdoorsmen? Your Clenzoil “Field & Range” is amazing….. and I have tried every brand it seems available in the US and the UK!
Esko Rantannen, Sodankyla Finland
A: Esko, Clenzoil “Field & Range” offers a grease that you might consider trying as well. We call it Hinge Pin Jelly……but don’t let the name fool you. It can be used on many more things that shotgun hinges. In fact, it works great on rifle bolts, slide rails, action friction points where a grease is called for…….and it works fantastic as a anti-seize product for choke tubes! Our Clenzoil “Jelly” is a 100% synthetic product that will function in -40C Degrees up to +600C Degrees. It will work in Freshwater, Saltwater…..even UNDERWATER! Unlike 95% of the greases on the market today that provide limited rust/ oxidation protection (acting as a simple oxygen barrier)…..Clenzoil Hinge Pin Jelly has Rust Inhibitors actually blended into the formula! With unequaled tackifiers added, Clenzoil Hinge Pin Jelly will not migrate under load which means it can be used sparingly with outstanding results. We hope you will give it a try….as we assure you it meets the Clenzoil Worldwide quality and performance standards that have been established and field tested since 1948!

C: You are NOT going to believe this story, but I had to share it with your company. I dropped a Remington 870 Wingmaster in about four feet of water while Duck hunting. The gun was loaded when it fell off of my small Duck blind/boat. I searched for it for over 2 hours in 35F degree weather. The frigid water temperatures forced me to eventually stop my search. The night before my hunt, I had completely field stripped my shotgun and did a complete and thorough cleaning and lubrication session using Clenzoil. I lost that gun almost 2 YEARs AGO. Last week my Brother-In-Law was driving some poles in the water for an elevated dog box, in the area I lost my shotgun. He found my 870 Wingmaster! However, the really amazing news was that after he shucked the shells out of the gun and hosed it off……there was NO RUST ANYWHERE ON THAT GUN. When he called me and told me he found it and it wasn’t completely destroyed by rust I didn’t believe him until I saw it with my own eyes. I field stripped it down and once again completely cleaned and treated it with Clenzoil. I plan on hunting with it this season! I have no idea what you guys put in this s**t, but it is absolutely amazing. No one in my family or that I hunt with will ever trust their guns to anything else again. Thanks for making a product this good!
Kevin Mays, LaGrange Arkansas
R: Kevin, we hear stories almost every day about Clenzoil that amaze us…..although even we were impressed by the performance of Clenzoil “Field & Range” under those circumstances! Thanks for sharing your story (and luck) with us. By the way, since you don’t have to buy another shotgun, maybe you should buy your Brother-In-Law dinner….and maybe some Clenzoil of his own.

Q: Can Clenzoil be used on high performance air guns?
Gilliam Jones, Huntsville Alabama
A: Absolutely! Clenzoil will not diesel or auto-combust under pressure like many products will. Use it to clean your airgun and then lubricate the friction points. Wipe down the exterior of the weapon when finished to protect it from the elements. Clenzoil will also not dry out gaskets or seals that are common to such airguns.

C: Let me first say, thank you for providing a product that works so amazingly to our Command. We use Clenzoil “Field & Range,” in an armory application when servicing light, medium and heavy weapons for our operational Division stationed in Iraq. Clenzoil performs better than any other product we have ever tried in this hostile environment. We actually use it to rehabilitate light and medium weapons that are pulled “off line” due to performance issues. Our only problem is that units going on patrol are constantly “lifting” our supplies of Clenzoil to take with them! Keep up the great work and thank you for your support of your US Military around the world.

C: Just wanted to let you know how one of the busiest Archery Shops in the US uses Clenzoil on a daily basis. We apply Clenzoil to every screw head, torx head, axle and hinge or pivot point on our bows whether “tuning up” or “setting up,” a bow. We tell our customers to use Clenzoil to keep rust from appearing on their bows that will develop from exposure to the elements over the course of a season. Of course, our blackpowder shooters swear by Clenzoil. Our customers use it on anything metal they make take into the field. Climbing stands, ladder stands, knives, pruning shears……you name it. We especially like the fact that the smell won’t alert close game. Included with this order is a request for your “One-Step-Solution,” Patch Kits. Our customers love taking a few of those presaturated patches into the field with them in a zip lock baggy!

R: Jonathon, it always makes our day when a company like yours reminds us that Clenzoil has uses outside of the obvious firearms applications. Your order is on the way….and just so you know, we are about to bring some new products on line that I think will have your customers even more excited about the innovation a 61+year old company continues to exhibit. Thanks for your continued support.

Q: I use Clenzoil “Field & Range,” while restoring antique railroad lanterns. While some restoration “gurus,” suggest applying lacquer to a restored lantern to keep it from rusting….I don’t like doing that as lacquer will “yellow” over time and will eventually look as bad as the lantern may have before restoration began. Instead, I “dip” the lantern into a bucket of Clenzoil several times once it has been cleaned and restored. I do this several times allowing a longer “soak” each time. After about five or six “soak sessions,” the lantern (once dry) will remain rust free and looking new for years without follow up Clenzoil treatments. So, what’s the secret ingredients that makes Clenzoil work so well?
C. Crawford
Tampa, Florida
A: Mr. Crawford, the secret……is a secret. However, we can tell you that it is not just the various components and additives that makes Clenzoil work so well. It is also the proprietary blending process that makes Clenzoil truly unique. The real “secret” about Clenzoil is just how many museums and archives use Clenzoil to maintain their historic inventories for the very same reason you use Clenzoil to restore your antique lanterns! Send us some pictures of your restored lanterns with Clenzoil…..we would love to put them on our website!

C:Recently I attended a Sporting Clays event for a local charity. I brought along my Merkel Model 2001EL 12 gauge O/U. I had not shot it in about three years and when I pulled it out of its inner bag/ safe sock I immediately realized that when I had last put it away, I had totally forgotten to clean it. My worst fears were realized when I stepped into the shooting “box” mounted my shotgun and pulled the triggers and nothing happening. The triggers were gummed up and the firing pins were completely frozen in place! I figured that I had not only lost out on an enjoyable day of clays…..but may have also ruined a beautiful and very expensive family heirloom. Luckily, some chap who knew more about smoothbores than I did volunteered to take a look at my problem gun. Using nothing more than a little of your magic elixir, his tremendous knowledge and a terry cloth towel he had my gun fully functional in about five minutes. He squirted Clenzoil down the firing pin holes and up into the receiver through the trigger opening and allowed in to break down the crud and built up gunk that had everything locked up. He then cleaned off the sides of the action and greased the hinge pins with your HPJ Grease. Finally he wiped down the entire exterior of the firearm so that it simply glowed. Amazing! My gun then went on to work flawlessly over the entire course. I offered to pay him for his expertise and for his bottle of Clenzoil…..to which he declined on both! Now I have purchased my own supply of your Magic Medicine for firearms! You may now consider me your Ambassador of Good Will at all future clay shoots I attend. Many Thanks.

R: Thanks for your endorsement Richie. I am glad we could play a small part in your “rescue.” I hope your day turned out better than it started and don’t forget to clean your guns……especially the expensive ones!
